WELCOME to our new market this year, Ledyard Farmers Market

" The Ledyard Farmers Market offers fresh, locally-grown foods and artisan wares. Our mission: to bring local products to area communities, renewing the relationship between community, farmer, and maker.

The Market is a certified CT Grown market. We are proud to showcase vendors that grow and create top quality products right here in the Constitution state. Each week, our curated vendors bring seasonal produce, meats, cheeses, breads, and sweet treats for your table. Local artists bring handcrafted goods to grace you and your home.

Launched in 2008, the Ledyard Farmers Market has been nurtured by many local farmers and creators. We celebrated our tenth anniversary in a big way, revamping our market program and becoming the place to gather each Wednesday afternoon."

Mid-week markets are a nice choice, and being so close to the shore, there are lots of pleasant things to do. Make a trip to Holmberg Orchards , the Nathan Lester House for a trip back in time.

On another note:

Our webmaster made a trip to Monterosso, Calabro Italy this January and while she didn't speak much Italian, the language of love for food is universal. Salted Cod, fresh wheels of cheese, meats, sausages at the local farmers market...and a local produce truck bellowing throughout town in the morning! Stunning displays of produce were to be seen at Frutta e Verdura where Sue and her new friend Giussy chatted about fruits, vegetables and social media. This gal is a hard-working social savvy entrepreneur! Enjoy a gallery from across the world.

When asked what she wanted to see in Italy, farmers markets and seatweaving were on the top of her list, much to her host's amusement. Asked to make "an American meal" at an agritourism B&B, she opted to make a "Three Sisters Stew" with corn, beans and squash with ingredients used in native american companion planting. Deciphering ingredients was a challenge, the ingredients weren't quite the same as at home...but...it came out delicious and is now on the B&B's menu. Giussy was indispensable in helping to acquire the ingredients.
