"Real Farmers. Real Food. Live Local."
Thursday 10 am to 2pm, May 17 - Nov 8
Nestled in that sweet spot between rural farm stand and urban gourmet mecca, the Westport Farmers’ Market may actually have figured out how to be all things to all people. Or at least all people who love good food.
In this exurban enclave between New York City and the arcadian Connecticut countryside, more than two dozen real farmers, chefs and artisans gather weekly near the banks of the Saugatuck River in a celebration of good food and the land from which it comes.
Walk the stalls under the summer sun while sipping a creamy “Cold Roman” espresso. (Some call it heaven in a biodegradable cup.) Tuck a fresh payesanne baguette baked in the old French style into your bag as you make your way toward piles of fresh oysters on ice. Bursts of color from the loosely tied bouquets of fresh flowers catch your eye and you promise to treat yourself after lunch. Speaking of lunch, how does wood fired pizza sound? Or maybe hot tamales and fresh salsa? There’s time to toss a few more necessaries into your bag: free range chicken and eggs, heirloom tomatoes, cheeses, organic meats and loose leaf teas.
While you’re in the neighborhood, locals would tell you that a five-minute drive in one direction will land you at the beach, a sandy stretch of Long Island Sound shoreline. Five minutes in the other direction will put you on Main Street, where you’ll find some of the best shopping north of Fifth Avenue.
Which way you go, will all depend on your appetite…
Enjoy our award winning local, sustainable and organic food.
